Middleham is a short drive away which is famous for its castle where Richard III once lived and is the home of many race horses.
Forbidden Corner, Asgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, Jervaulx Abbey and Thorpe Perrow Arboretum are just a few of the many more places to explore.

WALKS
The beauty of Carlton Old Hall is that you you can exit the gate at the bottom of the garden and pick up footpaths that lead to many fabulous walks for all abilities. There is a perfect circular walk for families that ends at the pub in the village!
For the more adventurous climb Great Wernside or the hills above West Scrafton.
EATING OUT
Just a short walk from the house is the village pub which serves tasty food and has a good selection of hand pulled beers.
A little further afield is the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton which has a fish bar and gets great reviews for its fine food. There also pubs and restaurants in both Leyburn and Middleham.
